Estelle Vernon
Your Jewelry Fairy Godmother™
I am a resident artist at the Torpedo Factory Art Center in Old Town Alexandria, Virginia. My passion for metalsmithing began in high school, and I have spent years perfecting my craft and mastering unique techniques such as keum boo. My work is characterized by attention to detail and dedication to excellent craftsmanship
The Art of Keum Boo
Introduced to the keum boo technique in 1987 by my professor Komelia Okim, I have been fascinated with the beautiful contrast created between oxidized silver and 24k gold. This Korean metal technique involves applying ultra-thin 24k gold to silver, creating a permanent diffusion bond. My use of keum boo brings a distinctive elegance to my jewelry designs
Inspiration and Process
I find inspiration in nature and the textures captured during my travels. Incorporating these unique textures through etching, texturing, and keum boo, or by using pearls and gemstones, I create modern, versatile pieces that can be worn for any occasion
